Spare time is never easy to come by. It’s tough to even find a few minutes every day when you’re not busy or running around. So when you do have a little bit of extra time, you need to take advantage of it. While it’s always good to take a seat and have a breather, it’s even better to make the most of your time and do something productive. Even if you only have 5 or 10 minutes to spare, you can always find creative ways to use that time wisely. Here are 5 productive things you can do in your spare time:
Go for a run (or a walk).
Most of us don’t schedule time to exercise. That’s unfortunate because keeping active is one of the most important things you can do for your body and mind. Aside from getting enough sleep, working out regularly every week keeps your body in shape, which is completely necessary when you have a crazy schedule. If you have 10-15 minutes, go out for a quick jog. Even if you only have 5 minutes, take a brisk walk. It might be tough at first to get your body moving but once you do, you’ll feel the difference.
Many people don’t consider themselves writers but that’s not true. Anyone can write. Putting your thoughts to paper can actually be very therapeutic. It’s also a great way to sharpen those creative skills, as well as jot down any ideas that come to mind that you don’t want to forget. Make it a habit to start writing regularly, even if it’s a quick paragraph in your journal.
Call a friend or family member.
This may not necessarily be productive but it certainly boost happiness, which leads to increased productivity. If you have 5 minutes, take the time to call a friend or family member and see how they are doing. Forget about text or emails. The art of a phone call is getting lost these days. Take a few minutes to have a personal conversation. It’s great for the mind.
Take a cat nap.
Naps may seem counterproductive but quite the opposite! Quick naps will refresh your mind and give you that quick burst of energy you desperately. If you have time to sneak in a cat nap during the day, do it – especially if you are sleep deprived at night. Limit yourself to about 20 minutes though, you don’t want to oversleep.
Organize your email.
If you have nothing else to do, there is always one thing you can count on: your inbox being cluttered. If you only have a couple minutes to spare, clean up your inbox. Delete the ones you will never need again and file the rest away.
