Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone Today


There is hardly anything in life that is perfect. What do you think you can improve? Is your career going the way you pictured? Are your relationships with family and friends as strong as they should be? Are you living the life you want to live?

Chances are there is something in your life that you can improve, big or small. But how are you working on getting there? Change doesn’t just happen.  It requires risk.

Often times, we get stuck in a rut. We get comfortable in our own situation and accept it for what it is because of fear. We’re scared of what might happen if we were to take a chance. But change only happens when you do. Here are a few easy ways you can step outside of your comfort zone today:

1. Get to know someone new.

We can get very comfortable with the people we have in our lives. We tend to surround ourselves with the same people everyday, which is fine. But at the same time, we can be blinding ourselves from other great people right around us. One of the best ways to grow is to learn from other people’s perspectives. So the next time you go out for lunch, ask that person sitting a couple cubicles away to join you. They might just be your new friend.

2. Find a new passion.

Do you stick to the same activities and hobbies every weekend? When is the last time you’ve tried something new? If you have to think back to some time in your teenage years, it’s time to find a new interest. You don’t have to give up doing anything you already love. But you can learn a lot about yourself when you put yourself in new situation. Challenge yourself. Be as bold as you were when you were 18.

3. Pick up the phone.

In this day and age when everything is done over email, we forget to pick up the phone sometimes. Even though sending an email or a text is so easy, it’s not the same as human interaction. Don’t get to the point when you feel uncomfortable actually talking to someone. There is so much more that can happen organically just by talking to someone over the phone, or better yet, in person.

4. Failure is OK.

Lastly, don’t fear failure. As a matter of fact, you’ll probably fail at the majority of the things you try. But that’s fine. No one who has experienced success can say they’ve never experience failure. Everything in a lesson learned.
